I have been in management positions since 1973; does that mean I am a Leader?

So, I marched on over to my favorite spot, Wikipedia, to get the definition of a Leader and much to my surprise there was no such thing as definition of a “Leader.”

There are lists of types of leaders, i.e., Supreme Leader, Party Leader, Flotilla Leader and the list goes on. The word “leader” is a person who leads or commands a group, organization or country.

In John C. Maxwell’s book “Leadership Promises for Every Day,’ he states, “Anyone can follow a path, but only a Leader can blaze one. ”

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” — John Quincy Adams

Well, I do not know about you but, I have always been of the belief that to become a “Leader” it is because of your actions, circumstances and or persistence in leading projects, people and you deserved or earned it. Very rarely do people become Leaders because they were born into it.

Heck, you may be an excellent example of a Leader.

Lolly Daskal, President & CEO of Lead From Within states there are ten signs of a Leader:

1. You have an open mind and seek out other people’s opinions.
