Are You A Resilient Person?
Are you a Resilient Person?
Over my 50+ years in working with people I have always been fascinated with the different types of people I have met in my life and what I have learned from them.
I read a quote last week that stuck in my mind:
“At the heart of resilience is a belief in oneself — yet also a belief in something larger than oneself.” ~ Hara Estroff Marano, Editor-at-Large for Psychology Today
“Resilient people do not let adversity define them. They find resilience by moving towards a goal beyond themselves, transcending pain and grief by perceiving bad times as a temporary state of affairs… It’s possible to strengthen your inner self and your belief in yourself, to define yourself as capable and competent. It’s possible to fortify your psyche. It’s possible to develop a sense of mastery.” ~ Hara Estroff Marano
In the last month I and my family have been exposed to our fair share of adversity, with my youngest Brother going to the hospital for water on his heart and kidneys. His recovery will be a long one and being the tight knit family we are, we will persevere through the adversity and become stronger than ever.
My Brother will be rejoining his family shortly and will be sent home with daily “home-care services”.
As the quote says “… we have not let adversity define us. We have found resilience by moving forward, in our lives, transcending pain and grief through the bad times because we know in our hearts it is only a temporary state of affairs. We have become closer in our inner selves and our beliefs that we are capable and competent. We have fortified our psyche and belief in God.”
Thanks to our friends, family and extended families for all of your prayers and to a Happy New Year.
