Did You Know the Boomer Generation is the largest segment of consumers?

I recently read an article by Karina Tama Rutigiaro, 5 Things You Need to Know about Marketing to Baby Boomers and it was a real eye opener for me. Being a Baby Boomer myself and while working with the Senior Community as a retired real estate professional, I was required to know what things were of importance to them and what were their needs and desires for their future.

Below are facts about this group:

1. The Baby Boomer generation empowers people between the ages of 53 & 71

2. Baby Boomers are:

a) Abundant

b) Affluent and more tech-savvy.

c) They are healthier and more active than their parents were at the same age.

3. Boomers are all about themselves:

a) They hold a strong reputation for being diligent and hard workers.

b) They control 70% of all disposable income in the U.S.

c) Are tech savvy.

d) Spend as much time online as they do watching TV.

e) 96% of them use search engines

f) 95% of them use e-mail

g. 92% shop for products and services online. Baby Boomers are the “me” generation and very independent.

h. Baby Boomers are much healthier and active and looking forward to life as “empty nesters”

i. They work hard to pay off mortgages and other debts with the end result of maximizing their return on investments.

j. They are wanting to “live-in-place” rather than Senior Care facilities.

k. Adventurous and want do all things they’ve always dreamed of doing.

l. Do not think of themselves as an “aging population.”

4. When marketing to this generation its’ important to understand who they are, where they came from and where they hope to be in the future when getting their attention for your business.
