Do you Spend Time With Your Best?
Several years ago I was introduced to the Pareto Principal and began applying it to my life. At that time I did not realize what impact it would have on me or my business.
John C. Maxwell explains the Pareto Principal in his book “Leadership Promises For Every Day A Daily Devotional.”
Factoid: In 1906, Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto noted that 80% of Italy’s land was owned by 20% of the people. (Ref. article 13 Examples Of The Pareto Principle by Anna Mar, May 30, 2013)
The Pareto Principal is a useful tool for determining your priorities within your business or life.
The Pareto Principal goes like this:
· 20 percent of your priorities will give you 80 percent of your production.
· If you spend your time, energy, money and personnel on the top 20 percent of your priorities.
As Leaders we need to understand this principle in the areas of people oversight and leadership. i.e., 20 percent of the people in an organization will be responsible for 80 percent of the company’s success. This strategy will enable a leader to increase the production of his/her organization by doing the following:
· Determine which people within your organization are the top 20 percent producers.
· Spend 80 percent of your time with the top 20 percent.
· Spend 80 percent of your personal development dollars on the top 20 percent and
· Ask the top 20 percent to do “on-the-job-training” for the next percent.
Woody Allen said it best ~ “80 percent of success is showing up”
· 80% of sales come from 20% of your clients.
· 80% of sales come from 20% of your products
· 80% of sales come from 20% of your salespeople and
· 80% of your complaints come from 20% of your customers
There you have it, The Pareto Principal. Now go out and implement it in your organizations or your life.
