Grow A Leader … Grow The Organization
By Jill Klunk September 27, 2018 Category: Leadership
Transformational Leadership is an effective leader who does the following:
· Creates an inspiring vision of the future
· Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision
“Grow A Leader … Grow The Organization.” He states “a company cannot grow without, until its leaders grow within.” John Maxwell’s book Leadership — Promises for Every Day.
Too many times I have seen companies that throw money to the wind with fancy brochures and slogans that will never catch business for them. Don’t get me wrong it is OK to promote yourself but first you must get the public to know, like and trust you.
With technology growing, like it is today, it is very easy for a small business to focus on areas that will produce growth and set-up a blog that provides them the vehicle to not only promote themselves but it is a way to invest in themselves, teach others about their product(s) and share the benefits of working with them.
Transformational Leadership Characteristics
Characteristics of a transformational leader:
· Encourages the motivation and positive development of followers
· Exemplifies moral standards within the organization and encourages the same of others
· Fosters an ethical work environment with clear values, priorities and standards.
· Builds company culture by encouraging employees to move from an attitude of self-interest to a mindset where they are working for the common good
· Holds an emphasis on authenticity, cooperation and open communication
· Provides coaching and mentoring but allowing employees to make decisions and take ownership of tasks. (Resource: The concept of transformational leadership started with James V. Downton in 1973 and was expanded by James Burns in 1978.)
Examples of transformational leaders:
Jeff Bezos, Amazon; Reese Hastings, Netflix, Steve Jobs & Tom Cook, Apple; Jeff Boyd & Glenn Fogel, Priceline and Kent Thiry, DaVita
John Maxwell concludes with the following:
“The strength of any organization is a direct result of the strength of its leaders.
Weak Leaders = weak organizations.
Strong Leaders = strong organizations.
Everything rises and falls on leadership.”
That being said, you may not build your organization over night but in time, with a strong vision, systems and proper leadership you will build a strong organization.
