How My Dear Friend Tom Hilley Has Changed My Life
His biggest dream was to retire at age 65, move to Myrtle Beach, play golf, go to the beach and spend time with his Grandchildren.
I am sharing this story because my dear friend, who at the young age of 59 was diagnosed with brain cancer. My friend was a very successful insurance man who loved life and playing golf.
I was devastated when I received the news and it changed my Husband and my life forever.
His biggest dream was to retire at age 65, move to Myrtle Beach, play golf, go to the beach and spend time with his Grandchildren.

Before Tommy got sick, the four of us were inseparable. They were the kind of friends that you knew would always be there for one another.

We played golf every weekend, went on trips, had dinner with their family, celebrated the wedding of their Daughter, the birth of their grand-children, and when we had nothing planned we just hung out together playing board games or cards. We were family.
His getting sick confirmed my belief that “life is too short and you never know when the good Lord is going to make his calling.”
Therefore, you should live every minute of your life to its fullest and treat everyone in the same manner as you would want them to treat you — with respect.
His wife Sue, passed after a four year fight with Alzheimer’s.
She loved to hear that we were going to be playing golf that weekend; it made her so happy.
It is a very sad story; because this Lady, my Dear Friend, lost everything she cared for.
I prayed for her every day it has enforced my belief.
“Live your life to its fullest every day and act on the moment for it may be your last moment.”
Sue lived another year and passed in April, before her 68th birthday.

A day does not go by when I find myself sitting at my computer thinking about the good times we had with Tom & Sue and the plans we had for our retirements golfing, beaching and just loving life to its fullest.
My Husband and I are both retired, living in South Carolina, we often talk about the good times we had with Tom & Sue but, they are just that … Memories.
