What Are Soft Skills?
Soft skills are sometimes referred to as transferable skills or professional skills.
Why Are They So Important?
According to Wikipedia, as this term implies, these are skills that are less specialized, less rooted in specific vocations, and more aligned with the general disposition and personality of a candidate. Examples of important soft skills are communication, teamwork and problem solving.
Candidates with strong soft skills are in high demand for many different types of jobs. Soft skills are the interpersonal attributes you need to succeed in the workplace. These are related to how you work with and relate to others — in other words, people skills.
Regardless of the job, you have to interact effectively with supervisors and people above and below you on the work chart, as well as others such as customers, vendors, patients, students, etc.
Companies seek candidates with both types of skills when hiring for most positions. That’s because if you have a negative attitude, can’t get along with others, don’t communicate well, aren’t a team player, and aren’t able to think creatively, it may not matter how well educated and competent you are.
