“Coloring involves complete absorption. It engages your brain when deciding on which color to use. ~ Hillari Dowdle

For those of you that have read my posts know that one of my favorite things to do is read my Sunday paper outside with a nice hot cup of coffee.

This article in The Parade Section of the paper stopped me dead in my tracks with this attention grabbing title “50 Shades of Happy — The New Joy of Coloring — Discovery Coloring For Grown-Ups!” By Hillari Dowdle

Since I am a Boomer and my target audience, in business, is the over 50+ demographic and this article especially caught my attention. The author, Hillari Dowdle talks about the coloring craze of this group of people.

Why, after all these years is this becoming such a craze?

“Coloring is a great way for adults to relax and beat stress. You can choose from a variety of different series.” ~ CNN, FOX News, The Huffington Post.

It is transformation of mind and spirit. The world is full of work stress, money matters, health concerns, arguments and more. As a result the world has caught on to this magical, mood lifting power.

Adults are finding coloring, as a way to downshift and pull away from the hustle and bustle of our hectic lifestyle.

Instead of, watching the TV, or videos on the computer people are pulling out their adult coloring books and color pencils to spend their evening hours to relax.

Why? Because coloring involves complete absorption.

· It engages your brain when deciding on which color to use.

· It requires individuals to be absorbed in what they are doing. And that makes it meditative.

· It brings you back to a much simpler and pleasurable time.

· It gives you a chance to sit and be mindful

The author goes on to tell that some people use coloring for therapeutic reasons, i.e., suffering from chronic pain, trauma, and more.

As a result, a new trend has come about in social media feeds where people can build bonds with other groups or people with like interests.

Due to the growth of this new trend “adult coloring books” are now available through most stores and people are sharing their talents on Pinterest.
