This morning I read an article “Rethinking Aging: How to Plan to live to 100” by Jessica and it stopped me in my tracks.

“Believe in yourself more than you believe in your product.” ~ Paul Evans

When I turned 60 I was already into my third career and wasn’t even thinking about slowing down. I have never associated my age with what I wanted to do in my life and probably never will.

These cultural assumptions were forged in our heads many years ago — when our longevity wasn’t talked about. Now, people are living healthier and longer. Jessica sites “by 2050, the average lifespan for American women will be as high as 94-years old!” And that is just the AVERAGE!

And 60 is the new mid-life.

At that pace it could be possible for us to see and live the lifestyles that have been portrayed on TVs, social media and in books.

The one thing that it definitely has done for me is stop, look at how I am living, both physically and mentally, and start looking at what changes I MUST make now.

Based on that, is 60 the new mid-life?

For the last couple of years I have been taking better care of myself, both physically and mentally, and I know that if I want to keep on gettin’ it, I must make adjustments.

I have never thought about “aging.” That word has never entered into my mind, and at 71, I still do not think or act like my life is nearing the end.

There are days when I think about all I have done in my life and it is not unrealistic that I have another three decades to go and that is a long time.

My Dad was a great role model for longevity and lifelong expansion. He quit school in the 9th grade to help his parents. He went on to become a machinist like his Father.

He then went into the real estate business to reinvent himself. He always loved helping others improve their lives and the apple did not fall to far from that tree.

So, I have altered my thinking and am creatively transforming my life and all the things I can do with that time. Every day I learn something new and find people that I can help improve their lifestyle.

Do you know of someone in your sphere that is doing the same? What are you looking forward to? Have you shifted your expectations to living longer?
