What is Vepillology?
By Jill Klunk June 14, 2019
According to Wikipedia, Vexillology (noun) is the study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags or, by extension, any interest in flags in general. The word is a synthesis of the Latin word vexillum (“flag”) and the Greek suffix -logia (“study”).
TODAY IS NATIONAL FLAG DAY
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress decreed that the flag of the United States would be “13 stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
On June 24, 1924, President Taft issued an Executive Order that established the proportions of the flag and the arrangement of the six horizontal rows of eight stars, a single point on each start aligned upward.
On August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.
On August 21, 1959 President Dwight David Eisenhower issued an Executive Order to add the 50th star, to the American flag, recognizing Hawaii as the last state of the Union.
I love to write about many different topics and things that I stand for. i.e., Patriotism, the love of my Country, my experiences and how they shaped my beliefs, etc.
My Parents always had an American flag flying in the yard even on Christmas Day. To this day, we fly our flag every Day of the week, come rain or shine.
When I was a Realtor, I placed small flags on the front lawns of every house in our neighborhood for the 4th of July, 576 to be exact. Not just for celebration of the 4th but thanking them for being my neighbor.
