Being a Baby Boomer myself I find myself spending more and more time on the Internet researching topics of not only my interests, but those of other Boomers. Below is a list of my findings:

1. The Internet is the top source for getting information on topics of interest.

2. Today Baby Boomers are more connected than ever before. They are using Facebook, search engines, smart phones and other digital devices to search for information and staying in touch with friends and family.

3. Here are three key insights:

a. Where do they hangout online?

82.3% of them belong to at least one social network site. Facebook is the most popular.

b. How much time do they spend commenting?

Other than Facebook, they usually spend one to two hours per week on social networking sites. However, a significant number (15.5% spend 11+ hours per day on Facebook.

c. How are they influenced?

1) The older segment of this section, based on what they see on social media, and most of the time it’s found on getting more information.

2) More than ½ of Leading-Edge Boomers will visit a company website or continue the search on a search engine after seeing information on a social marketing site.

4. Key take-away:

· The majority, of users over 60, who use social media, use Facebook and LinkedIn,

· Many of Leading Edge Boomers (15.5%) spend 11 hours per week on Facebook.

· Over half of Boomers who use social networking sites, visit a company website or continue their search on a search engine as a result of seeing something on social media.
